The monument was unveiled on 10.10.1998.
The plaques on the Hulkonniemi memorial bear the inscriptions 'Hulkonniemi 1939' and 'For Finland and Suomussalmi, brothers in arms of Hulkonniemi'.
Looking north from the memorial, you can see Vanha Kirkkosaari (the Old Church Island), where many priests of the old parsonage are buried.
