The Hahnenböhler Cross, a wayside cross, stands north of Deidesheim and west of Forst on the Wine Road amidst the vineyards of the "Hahnenböhl" plots. It is located on a roughly 5-meter high limestone rock and is prominently visible in the plain. The metal cross features the Christogram IHS, and above it is a double cross.
This cross was erected in 1886 to replace a wooden predecessor from 1803. Both crosses were erected by the Spindler family, who originated from Forst.
The Hahnenböhler Cross is a weather cross. These were traditionally placed along paths leading to the village or at exposed locations to ward off misfortune from the villages and fields. They were usually very tall wooden crosses, often double crosses, which were hoped to have particularly effective protective powers.
