Umgangssprachlich wird die Gegend von Alfersteg auch Bärenschweiz genannt. Deshalb befindet sich inmitten des Ortes, nahe der Ourbrücke, ein kleines Denkmal mit einer Bärenstatue.

Namensgebend für unsere Bärenschweiz, die erst in den 1920-30er Jahren ihren Namen bekam, waren einige rauflustige, bärenstarke Kerle einer Familie aus dem Ourgrund, die schnell den Spitznamen „Bär“ weghatten. Von da war es nicht weit, die hügelige Gegend als Bärenschweiz zu benennen.
