Historical records describe a once large and well-organised monastery consisting of two courtyards. One courtyard contained monastic cells, a kitchen, an oven, dining facilities, and a two-storey inn used for travellers and pilgrims. The second courtyard included agricultural structures such as stables and haylofts, reflecting the monastery’s self-sufficient character. However, by the mid-20th century, most of the buildings had collapsed, with only the church surviving.
Today, the monastery consists of a three-nave church, a modern residential building, and a fountain dating from 1846. Although reduced in size, it remains an active religious site and a reminder of the monastery’s former regional importance as both a spiritual and logistical centre for travellers in the Eastern Rhodopes.
