Das „Klösterl” wie es Einheimische nennen, war in seinen Anfängen eine Klause, die vom Eremiten "Antonius de septem castris" errichtet wurde. 1454 wurde die Kapelle zu Ehren des Heiligen Nikolaus erbaut und ist die einzige Felsenkirche mit natürlichem Dach in Europa. Nach dem Tod des Eremiten Antonius war die Klause bis 1459 verlassen, bis Herzog Albrecht III. die päpstliche Erlaubnis für die Errichtung eines Franziskanerklosters erhielt. Im Zuge der Säkularisation wurde das Kloster 1802 aufgelöst.
Heute ist die Einsiedelei Klösterl ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel im Naturschutzgebiet Weltenburger Enge. Sehenswert sind die einzigartige Felsenkirche, die Nikolauskapelle und die Felsenhöhlen.
Der Biergarten und das Klösterl-Wirtshaus laden zum Verweilen ein.
Hinweis: Die Einsiedelei ist nur zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad erreichbar.
