Das "weiße Gold", wie der berühmte Laaser Marmor häufig genannt wird, kommt aus den Bergen hoch über Laas. Er wird am Jennwandstock, genauer im Weißwasserbruch auf 1526 m, im Untertagebau gewonnen. Von dort bringt eine Transportseilbahn die Marmorblöcke auf die andere Talseite, wo sie von einer Diesellokomotive zum Bremsberg transportiert werden. Mittels der im Jahr 1929 erbauten Schrägbahn wird der Marmor ins Tal befödert, wo er im Marmorwerk sowie in den kleineren Werkstätten der Steinmetze kunstvoll geformt und weiterverarbeitet wird. Dieser kostbare Stein ist in seinen Eigenschaften in ganz Europa unübertroffen und wird seit Jahrhunderten in alle Welt exportiert. Wegen seiner besonderen Schönheit und Härte wird er mit Vorliebe für Skulpturen und Bildhauerarbeiten verwendet, außerdem dient er als wertvolle Plattenware im Bausektor.
