Schieritz Castle Mill

The Schieritz Castle Mill is one of originally seven water mills on the Ketzerbach. During a visit to our mill, you can gain many interesting insights into the historical technology of a small artisan mill. Such mills used to form an important basis for the local supply of flour, bread and animal feed. The Schieritz Castle Mill is an important cultural monument in the district of Meissen, Saxony, due to the almost unaltered ensemble of buildings and the almost completely existing mill technology.

The mill site in Schieritz was first mentioned in old church records from 1361. As early as 1349, there is an entry in the documents about Schieritz that a Johanni de Gorenzk had been enfeoffed with the Unterhof. In the "Ur - Oeder", an old map of the area around Meissen from 1549, the next entry of a watermill can be found. However, it is not known which buildings made up the mill at that time.

The Schieritz castle mill is a technical monument with completely preserved mill technology over 4 floors, a light power generation system from 1905, a bakery and a cutting mill, and cyclists are always welcome to take a break at the turning water wheel or on the shady fruit meadow in the idyllic Ketzerbach valley.
