The view over the south side of this small hill where the Maralhas windmill was built offers a different perspective on the surrounding landscape.
To the south, we can see the malacates (shaft towers) that used to move up and down the lifts in the deep shafts of the Aljustrel mines, hauling both human lives and mineral riches from the depths of the earth. In addition, we can see some acid water reservoirs, the mine warehouses, and the busy life of the miners, moving back and forth in vehicles.
In short, we have a perspective on an authentic mining territory. Further away, we can observe small sections of Alentejo cork oak forest between eucalyptus plantations, the most recent created by the companies owning the mines as an environmental compensation for their impacts.
