Zwischen der Rench und dem Kinzigtal erhebt sich der Bergrücken „Moos“. Sein Gipfel, der Mooskopf (871 m), bot über Jahrhunderte eine weite Rundumsicht. Diese genoss auch der Romanschriftsteller Johann Jacob Christoph von Grimmelshausen, der während des Dreißigjährigen Krieges mehrere Jahre in der Gegend lebte. Auch die Hauptfigur Simplicius Simplicissimus in seinem Roman „Der abenteuerliche Simplicissimus“ verbrachte einige Zeit auf der Moos. 1890 errichtete die Ortsgruppe Oberkirch des Schwarzwaldvereins in nur 2 Monaten Bauzeit den 21 m hohen Aussichtsturm aus rotem Sandstein. Mit den Jahren nahm der Wald wieder Besitz vom Moos und überragte den Moosturm, so dass sich der Aufstieg nicht mehr lohnte. Erst der Orkan Lothar sorgte am 26. Dezember 1999 wieder für freie Sicht, indem er den kompletten Gipfel entwaldete. Die Natur nimmt allmählich wieder Besitz von ihm.
Beim Moosturm treffen sich die Fernwanderwege Kandel-Höhenweg, Querweg Gengenbach–Schapbach–Alpirsbach und Renchtalsteig.
