The Justice Tower, known as Adalet Kasrı, is a 16th-century Ottoman structure located within the former palace complex of Edirne. Built by the architect Mimar Sinan, it served as a symbol of imperial justice and authority. The tower is associated with Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and the Ottoman administrative system.
The Justice Tower (Adalet Kasrı) was constructed in 1561 as part of the wider Edirne Palace complex during the reign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. Designed by the renowned Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan, the tower stands as a symbol of imperial justice and the central authority of the Ottoman state. It was strategically positioned on an island in the Tundzha River, within the palace grounds, emphasising both its isolation and symbolic importance.
Historically, the structure was associated with the operations of the imperial council and the high judicial system. It is traditionally believed that the Sultan himself observed or symbolically endorsed legal proceedings connected to the administration of the empire from this complex. While such accounts reflect imperial ideology rather than documented legislative activity, the tower remains an important architectural representation of Ottoman governance. Today, it survives as one of the key remnants of the Edirne Palace, illustrating the political and architectural sophistication of the Ottoman court.
