Der Plattensee (ungar. Balaton) ist der größte See Ungarns und außerdem der größte Binnensee Mitteleuropas. An seinem Nordufer locken herrliche Sand- und Rasenstrände, die von Obst- und Mandelbäumen gesäumt werden. Am Südufer befinden sich die größten Feriengebiete der Region. Das Ufer ist hier flach, hier kann man teilweise bis weit über 100 m in den See hineinlaufen. Aufgrund der geringen Tiefe ist der balaton als Badesee sehr beliebt und eignet sich auch hervorragend für alle Arten von Wassersport. Um den See herum führen außerdem zahlreiche Rad- und Wanderwege, auf denen man das malerische Hinterland kennen lernen kann.
