Die Talsperre Oderteich ist ein bedeutender Bestandteil des Oberharzer Wasserregals und wurde von den Bergleuten aus Sankt Andreasberg zwischen 1715 und 1722 erbaut. Über den zuvor gebauten Rehberger Graben wird das Wasser nach Sankt Andreasberg geleitet und treibt dort noch mehrere Wasserkraftwerke im Teichtal, der der Grube Samson und im Sperrluttertal an. Im Sommer lädt der See zum Baden ein.
