Der Süßwassersee hat ein eigenes Gezeitensystem, das durch den Wind entsteht und zu einem höheren Wasserstand an einem Ende des Sees führt.
Loch Earn ist ein Süßwassersee im Nationalpark und die Quelle des Flusses Earn, der schließlich in der Nähe des Dorfes Bridge of Earn in Perthshire in den Fluss Tay mündet. Der See ist insofern ungewöhnlich, als er ein eigenes Gezeitensystem, eine sogenannte Seiche, aufweist, die durch den vorherrschenden Wind entlang des Sees entsteht. Dieser Winddruck auf die Oberfläche führt dazu, dass sich der Wasserstand an einem Ende des Sees erhöht.

Der See ist ein beliebtes Ziel zum Angeln und für eine Vielzahl von Wassersportarten wie Segeln, Wasserski, Wakeboarden und Kanufahren. Der nahegelegene Ben Vorlich, der sich oberhalb des Südufers von Loch Earn erhebt, ist ein steilwandiger, pyramidenförmiger Munro von 985 m (3.232 Fuß), der eine großartige Aussicht nach Norden und Westen bietet.

Die Überreste eines Crannogs, einer alten Seehütte, befinden sich an der südwestlichen Ecke des Sees und deuten darauf hin, dass hier in den letzten zweitausend Jahren eine Siedlung bestand.
