Die Rappbodetalsperre bildet den zentralen Teil eines komplexen Talsperrenverbundsystems. Zu diesem System gehören die beiden Vorsperren Hassel und Rappbode, das Hochwasserschutzbecken Kalte Bode, die "Überleitungssperre" Königshütte und die Talsperre Wendefurth – sie bildet den Abschluss des Talsperrensystems.
