Alte Chroniken berichten

In den alten Chroniken gibt es geheimnisvolle Geschichten um den Eichener See. So sorgte er bereits im Jahre 1772 für Aufsehen, als 5 Männer ertranken. In der Zeit von 1799- 1800 erschien der See fünfmal und in den Jahren 1801 - 1802 viermal. Der Wasserstand war damals so hoch, dass der See gegen das Dorf Eichen auszubrechen drohte. Seit der Zeit wurde das sporadische Erscheinen des Sees registriert. Im Jahre 1876 forderte der See sein nächstes Opfer und 1910 ertranken weitere drei Personen.

Dolinenlandschaft

Der Eichener See bildet sich durch das Zutagetreten von Grundwasser in einer Doline. Der Grundwasserstauer, die Letten des Muschelkalks, liegt etwa 40 m unter der Erdoberfläche. Dort unten steht das Grundwasser in Höhlen und Gängen.Durch lange Regenzeiten oder durch die Schneeschmelze führen diese unterirdische Bäche Hochwasser und das staut sich, da die Abflüsse das Wasser durch die Kalkschichten des oberen Muschelkalks hindurch, bis es an der Oberfläche regelrecht zwischen den Grashalmen hervorsprudelt. Messungen haben ergeben, dass der Wasserspiegel bei Austritt pro Tag um etwa 8- 14 cm steigt. Der höchste Wasserstand ist nach 1- 5 Wochen erreicht. Der See kann 3m tief werden, dann sind etwa 2,5 ha Land unter Wasser. Er erscheint in unvorhersehbaren Zeitabständen.

Tanymastix lacunae

Dieses seltene Tier ist einzigartig in Europa. Es ist etwa 2 cm lang und von weißlicher Farbe. Dieses Tier wurde 1911 von zwei schweizer Zoologen im Eichener See entdeckt. Die Möglichkeit im Eichener See zu überleben, verdankt der Tanymastix dem Besitz von Dauereiern. Sie ertragen nicht nur eine weitgehende Austrocknung, sondern können sich ohne vorherige Trockenperiode nicht entwickeln.Ein Weibchen kann bis zu 17.000 Eiern legen.

Erreichbarkeit mit ÖPNV

Der Eichener See liegt zwischen der Stadt Schopfheim und Wehr, unweit von Hasel. Zu erreichen ist der See mit dem Bus 7335 vom Busbahnhof Schopfheim - Richtung Wehr/ Bad Säckingen, Haltestelle Schopfheim-Eichen Abzw. - nach Eichen, Richtung Wehr laufen (Beschilderung folgen) zum PKW- Parkplatz Eichener See, rechts auf der Eichener Höhe.
