Alpine Wasserkraft
Seit der Silvrettasee in 2.030 Metern Höhe in den 1940er-Jahren errichtet wurde, wird hier Energie aus Wasserkraft gewonnen. Die Staumauer und der Bielerdamm entstanden größtenteils während der Zeit des NS-Regimes. Zu Kriegsende wollten nationalsozialistische Anhänger die Anlagen zerstören. Einheimische Aktivisten konnten dies verhindern. Das aufgestaute und gespeicherte Wasser wird von den beiden Kraftwerken Obervermunt I und II genutzt. Ersteres ging 1943 in Betrieb und erzeugt heute etwa 29 Megawatt Strom, das Pumpspeicherkraftwerk Obervermunt II folgte erst 2019 und produziert 360 Megawatt.
