Double ramparts enclosure of the former cemetery and the castle, Witches' Tower and remarkable church tower with corner watchtowers and glazed tiles.
The first written mention of the fortification dates from 1298. A double rampart enclosure called the fortified cemetery (900m in total length) enclosed the castle district which included the church, the cemetery, the bailiwick house (Amthaus), wells, probably 2 fortified houses including the present presbytery and at least 20 individual houses.
Access to the district was through the tower gate of 1405, improbably called the Tower of the Witches. Several defensive towers flanked the walls. In 1489, the population of the castle district was estimated at about 100 people. The inner enclosure can be dated to the first half of the 13th century. The outer enclosure can be dated to the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century.
Since 2001, the "Tremplins" insertion team has been working on the site to consolidate and enhance it It is possible to walk there all year round and the Ramparts Association organises "La Fête des Remparts" every 2nd Sunday in June: nearly 400 people dressed in costumes on the site (morning parade), medieval entertainment troupes, equestrian games, games, music and dances of the period, medieval market, wild boar on spit and other restorations...
