Map / Ponteceso
Ponteceso, in the Ría de Corme and Laxe, is the birthplace of Eduardo Pondal. Its economy is based on fishing, shellfish, livestock and maritime tradition.
Ponteceso, located in the estuary of the Anllóns River, in the Ría de Corme and Laxe, is a village with a rich history dating back to Roman times, reflected in its name "Pontem Caesum." This place is known as the birthplace of Eduardo Pondal, the bard who wrote the lyrics of the Galician Anthem. The local economy is based on fishing, with the port of Corme as its hub, excelling in barnacle harvesting and mussel farming, making it the most important port in the Costa da Morte. Livestock farming, especially of pigs and dairy cattle, also plays a crucial role in the region. Corme has a long tradition in maritime trade and coastal shipping, with stories of sailors transporting goods across the Mediterranean. The figure of Admiral Mourelle de la Rúa, an explorer from Corme who reached Alaska, highlights the town's rich maritime heritage.
