The most famous mountain in the Zittau Mountains, the 514-metre-high Oybin, is a huge sandstone massif in the middle of a basin surrounded by volcanoes such as the Hochwald (749 m).

This extremely picturesque landscape was created by the forces of nature over millions of years: In the Cretaceous period, sandstone was deposited and sedimented, which was erupted by volcanic magma in the Tertiary period. The grandiose ruins of the medieval buildings in combination with the special natural conditions make Oybin one of the main sights of Upper Lusatia, a visit to which is one of the highlights of a stay in the Zittau region.

November to March 10.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. April to October 9.00 a.m. - 6.00 p.m.

On 24.12. and 31.12. the castle gate closes at 14.00.
