The Marschiertor, an important relic of Aachen’s 13th-century city fortifications, once served as the main military headquarters and was part of a comprehensive defense system that included ten other city gates. Today, it is home to the Oecher Penn City Guard, which donated a sculpture by Klaus Gehlen to commemorate the historic gatekeepers, the Pennsoldaten. An evening stroll around the Marschiertor offers the chance to experience this imposing structure bathed in atmospheric lighting.
