In dem ehemaligen Hofgärtnerhaus am Rande des Parks an der Ilm lebte Franz Liszt von 1869 bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1886.
In dem ehemaligen Hofgärtnerhaus am Rande des Parks an der Ilm lebte Franz Liszt von 1869 bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 1886. Hier unterrichtete er zahlreiche junge und begabte Pianisten aus dem In- und Ausland. Bereits 1887 ließ Großherzog Carl Alexander die Wohnräume des Komponisten als Memorialstätte eröffnen. Der Musiksalon und das Arbeitszimmer sind in der originalen Einrichtung samt Bechstein-Flügel erhalten geblieben. Franz Liszts Wohnung im ersten Obergeschoss des Hauses ist nach einer sorgfältigen Restaurierung der Möbel und der Rekonstruktion von Raumtextilien sowie Wandfassungen wieder als ein authentisches Interieur der Gründerzeit erlebbar. Das Wohn- und Arbeitszimmer als zentraler Salon sowie das Schlafzimmer blieben in der ursprünglichen Einrichtung erhalten. Das Speisezimmer stellt eine Annäherung an die frühere Möblierung dar, das Dienerzimmer ist rein museal ausgestattet. Seit 2006 ist im Erdgeschoss eine multimediale Dauerausstellung zum Leben, Werk und Wirken Liszts zu sehen, die als Kooperationsprojekt zwischen der Klassik Stiftung Weimar, der Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT und der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar entstand.
