Das Gebäude, das im Jahre 1976 ferzig gestellt wurde, sollte die Instanzen Amts-, Land- und Oberlandesgericht der ordentlichen Gerichtsbarkeit und die Staatsanwaltschaft unter einem Dach vereinen.

Große Aufmerksamkeit erfuhr der Mordprozess im Jahr 1907 gegen Karl Hau, dem der Schöpfer der Badischen Verfassung Eduard Heinz als Verteidiger zur Seite stand.
