Das „erste“ Rathaus wurde 1454 erbaut.

In den Jahren 1925 bis 1927 entstand das heutige Hauptgebäude nach Plänen des Architekten Friedrich Imbery. Das für die im Ersten Weltkrieg gefallenen Bürger von Bildhauer Franz Marmon geschaffene Ehrenmal ziert die West-Ecke des Gebäudes. Es stellt den Alemannenritter Sigmar dar, den historisch nicht belegten Gründer der Stadt.

Der Marktbrunnen entstand 1826; die Brunnenfigur zeigt Graf Johann v. Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen.
