The train station building in Kandel is a late classicist style building, built around 1860. The wooden platform cover dates from the 19th century.
Kandel Station
On March 14, 1864, the "Winden-Rhine Railway" was opened. Since that day, Kandel has been connected to the railway network. Shortly thereafter, the ship bridge over the Rhine, which had existed since 1840, was expanded, and on May 8, 1865, there was also a direct connection to the right-bank Baden railway network. Through the Winden junction, Kandel has also had access since 1864 to the Maximilian Railway, which was built from 1853 to 1855, leading from Neustadt over Landau and Winden to Weißenburg. Incidentally, the Palatine railway pioneer Jakob von Lavale was born in Kandel on August 30, 1843. He served as the Managing Director of the "Pfalzbahn" from 1884 to 1909.
