Historic Marketplace of Deidesheim
The historic marketplace in the heart of Deidesheim has been the central focal point of this traditional wine town along the German Wine Route for centuries. Surrounded by historic buildings, baroque courtyard estates, and significant sights.
At the center of the square stands the Andreas Fountain, which was donated by the Jordan family in 1851 and remains a defining landmark of the square to this day.
Around the marketplace, there are courtyard estates, some dating back to the Baroque period, including the office building of the Prince-Bishopric of Speyer. Together with the Catholic parish church of St. Ulrich, the marketplace is a typical historic urban focal point.

On the Deidesheim Market Square, an architectural highlight is the historic Town Hall of Deidesheim with its distinctive double-flight staircase. Today, the building houses the Museum of Wine Culture. Opening hours are from March until the 4th Advent, every Friday and Saturday afternoons.
Surrounding the Market Square are several historical courtyard estates, some dating back to the Baroque period. This includes the former administrative building of the Diocese of Speyer. Together with the nearby Catholic Parish Church of St. Ulrich, the square forms a typical historic town center that continues to shape the character of Deidesheim today.
Numerous restaurants, cafés, and wine taverns around the Market Square invite visitors to linger. In nice weather, guests can sit outside and observe the lively hustle and bustle—right on the German Wine Route, which runs through the city center of Deidesheim.
The Market Square is thus not only a historical site but also a vibrant meeting point for visitors and locals who want to enjoy the special flair of the Palatinate wine town.
The dominating building of the Deidesheimer Hof hotel, a Baroque courtyard estate, features many remarkable architectural elements. Particularly noteworthy is the curved gable, the flat bay window, and the barrel-vaulted porch on sandstone columns at the entrance. Surrounded by plant pots with leadwort, pomegranate trees, bay laurel, and oleander, the Andreas Fountain is visible in the center of the square. This fountain was donated in 1851 by the Jordan family. The fountain, which is inspired by Italian Renaissance models, was supplied by the Gienanthschen Hütte in Eisenberg.
At the site of the spacious courtyard estate at the corner of Market Square and Schlossstrasse stood the "Dienheimer Hof," the so-called "Forecastle" between the castle and the town. In 1744, the estate was acquired by the Diocese of Speyer and expanded as an administrative building. After the secularization, the building passed into the possession of Johann Spindler from Forst. The spacious courtyard estate was largely constructed in its current form in the early 19th century. A Chinese Wisteria climbs luxuriantly along the facade of the main house.
