Located on the Peace Trail of Mount Brione near the antennas. It was built between 1898 and 1900. Mountain fort – Gebirgsforts (third generation): fortification on bumps because the cuts were no longer sufficient to control the territory.
One part is made of square stones, including some large granites, while the roof is made of concrete. It could accommodate 100/150 men.
In 1915 it was equipped with a very large long gallery that led to observers on the overhanging wall of the Brione. The Fort was used to control the Nago area and the mouth of the Sarca River.
Itinerary description:
From Forte San Nicolò you climb along the Sentiero della Pace which, following the crest of Mount Brione, meets Forte Garda first and then the Batteria di Mezzo.
Once you reach the Batteria di Mezzo, you take the white forest road that goes down and meets, on the first hairpin bend, a path that leads to the paved road of Mount Brione (closed to traffic); you continue until you find a white road that rises slightly to the right: from here you arrive at Forte S. Alessandro: you always stay on the Path of Peace until you reach the square where the powder magazines are: from here you take the paved road and follow it in its entirety, until you reach the starting point at the port of San Nicolò.
Starting from the relative ease with which in the spring of 1848 the columns of the Frankish Lombard Corps managed to penetrate into Western Trentino, during the First War of Independence, which raised the question of the guarding of the valleys towards the Po Valley. From the second half of the 19th century until the First World War, when Trentino became a border land, five generations of fortifications were built, which changed as the methods of carrying out the war changed.
