Ebersmunster

Located some 40 km south of Strasbourg and 30 km north of Colmar, Ebersmunster is a village easily identified by its imposing Saint-Maurice abbey church, which is clearly visible from the surrounding area.
The village is the setting for this unique Austrian Baroque abbey church. An architectural nugget dating mainly from the 18th century, the Abbey of Saint-Maurice in Ebersmunster is one of the most beautiful in eastern France, recognizable from afar by its three bulbous, green-tiled towers.
In addition to this listed gem, the abbey church boasts a Silbermann organ (fully restored to its original condition in 1999). Every year, Les Heures Musicales d'Ebersmunster, organized by the Association des Amis de l'Abbatiale, offers classical music concerts and recitals on the Silbermann organ to a discerning public.
Around the abbey, stroll through the village, a typical Ried village with half-timbered houses and beautiful old farms. Stop to sample two local specialties: matelote du Ried, a fish-based dish, and mandelbari (almond mount), a sweet delicacy consisting of a superposition of shortcrust pastry circles topped with almond meringue.
