The Covão d'Ametade is one of the most beautiful places in the Serra da Estrela. Once a deer pasture, it represents a depression of glacial origin that has been wooded over time with birches on the banks of the river Zêzere. A truly paradisiacal setting.

At Covão d'Ametade, the river Zêzere takes shape in a small plain of glacial sediments. It is a very attractive area with vegetation composed mainly of birch trees, a plant that has the peculiarity of creating an ecosystem with a great biodiversity.

Although the place is almost 1,500 meters high, it is inaccessible only on the harshest winter days. This place is a popular destination for winter and mountain sports enthusiasts, who start their hikes and climbs in this area along the depressions and rock formations that end near Cântaro Magro. There are three Cântaros that rise around the Covão d'Ametade: the Cântaro Raso in the south, the Cântaro Magro in the middle and the emblem of the whole Serra da Estrela and the Cântaro Gordo in the north.
