This tour is the most difficult and demanding of the guide and has the potential to continuously surprise the hiker. The hike starts at Torre, the highest mountain on mainland Portugal, and leads on a very steep path into the lovely Covão d’Ametade. Via the lonely Vale de Candeeira, we then climb up to the impressive mountain lake Lagoa da Peixão. Before the summit of Cume, we hike back towards Torre.
We start the tour at Torre. From the stone monument, we hike about 800 m downhill on the asphalt road to the crossroads. On the way, we see a small reservoir on the left (for the snowmaking systems) and chair lifts. At the crossroads, we encounter an information board about this circular hike. The orientation on this path is initially not that easy: we follow the yellow-red markings as well as cairns. From the information board, we first descend into a small valley and follow a somewhat difficult-to-recognize path. Soon we arrive at a rock cliff with fantastic views. Here, we reach a junction where we take the path towards "Covão d’Ametade." Now we have to descend steeply and reach the first small lake, with two more lakes in sight. To reach these, we must descend further, which now also involves some scrambling. Countless gentians bloom around these two lakes. At the end of the right lake, we turn right and climb a rock path.
