Das Areal vor dem Hohen Schloss umfasst 4.000 m² bepflanzte Fläche. Die ehrenamtlichen Mitarbeiter der Unterallgäuer Gartenvereine haben insgesamt 150 Bäume und Sträucher, 1.100 Buxen, 390 Rosen, 50 Obstbäume, 1.800 Blütenstauden und über 2.000 Kräuter und Wildstauden gepflanzt. Unter den Gewächsen, die sorgfältig und nach bestimmten Kriterien ausgewählt wurden, befinden sich auch einige Exoten: Etwa die sibirische Ölweide oder die großfruchtige Kornelkirsche. Das gilt ebenso für die winterharten Kakteen, den Schmetterlingsflieder und den Kuchenbaum, dessen Blätter Lebkuchendüfte verbreiten.
Durch eine enorme Sortenvielfalt besticht der aus über hundert Bäumen bestehende Obstgarten. Besonderes Augenmerk wird auf neue Sorten gelegt, die etwa gegen Feuerbrand resistent sind. Im Stil einer kleinen Gartenschau entpuppen sich die vielen Blumenbeete. Unter anderem blühen 103 verschiedene Dahliensorten oder 20 verschiedene Pfingstrosen. Der Bauerngarten wird von den Bad Grönenbacher Hobbygärtnern betrieben.
