Like other Ottoman caravanserais, the building was designed around a secure enclosed courtyard where animals, goods, and travellers could be accommodated. Such structures played a vital role in facilitating commerce, communication, and administration across the Balkans. Although the caravanserai no longer serves its original purpose, it remains a significant architectural and historical landmark that illustrates the transport infrastructure of the Ottoman period and the importance of Novi Han as a traditional waypoint on one of southeastern Europe's most important historic roads.
