Wolfsburg, Neustadt's local castle, is a popular hiking destination. It offers wonderful views of Neustadt. The hike can start from Marktplatz in Neustadt.
Wolfsburg, Neustadt's local castle, was built in the 13th century to protect the Lambrecht Valley. It was the seat of the governors of the Palatine electors. Alongside the castles of Frankenstein and Hardenburg, it protected the Palatinate region. Due to the elongated shape of the mountain ledge, the ruin is only 30 m wide at a length of 140 m and sits spectacularly above the western entrance of Neustadt. The castle served as a refuge and was burned down and razed several times. Palas and some ring walls (with a castle tavern) have been preserved to this day.
Opening times
The castle tavern is open for you on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from April to October from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Good to know:
The castle itself can be visited year-round and also outside the opening hours of the castle tavern.
