Im 12. Jh. war am Nordende des Hollmuthrückens die Burg Reichenstein erbaut worden. Im 14. Jh. kam sie in den Besitz der Kurpfalz und wurde bereits im 15. Jh. aufgegeben. Auf einem Stich von Merian aus dem 17. Jh. ist die Burg als Ruine zu sehen. Heute sind nur noch Mauerreste vorhanden.
Die Burganlage hat einen annähernd rechteckigen Grundriss, und ist durch einen Halsgraben vom Bergrücken abgesetzt. Die Terrassierungen wurden zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts angelegt.

Die Burg liegt nahe der Ortschaft Neckargemünd. Von der A5 Ausfahrt "Heidelberg" über die B37 nach Neckargemünd. Innerorts bei der Gabelung zwischen der B37 und der B45 geradeaus in die Bahnhofsstraße fahren und der Hauptstraße folgen. Hinter der Eisenbahnbrücke rechts in die
Hollmuthstr. abbiegen und der ersten Straße rechts (Reichensteinstr.) folgen. Parken Sie am Ende der Reichensteinstraße und gehen zu Fuß zur Burg.
