Vodný hrad Hronsek z 14. storočia je zrekonštruovaná renesančná pevnosť so vzácnymi nástennými maľbami. Dnes ponúka prehliadky, kultúrne podujatia aj ubytovanie.

Vodný hrad Hronsek vznikol v 14. storočí a patril rodu Géczyovcov, medzi nimi aj Žigmundovi Géczymu, otcovi známej „Levočskej bielej pani“ Juliany Korponayovej-Géczyovej. Po nich sa tu vystriedalo viacero šľachtických rodov, napríklad Soosovci de Poltár, Battikovci, Schmideghovci či Róthovci.

Pôvodne mal hrad obranný múr so štyrmi vežami a vodnou priekopou, cez ktorú viedol padací most. Opevnenie chránilo objekt pred tureckými nájazdmi, no v 20. storočí bolo postupne odstránené. Vzácnosťou hradu sú renesančné nástenné maľby. Na druhom podlaží sa zachovali bojové výjavy a v severnom trakte fragmenty biblických scén, napríklad Obetovanie Izáka či Návrat márnotratného syna.

Dnes je Vodný hrad Hronsek komplexne zrekonštruovaný a prístupný verejnosti. Návštevníci si môžu vychutnať komentované prehliadky, kultúrne podujatia, prenajať si spoločenské priestory či dokonca prespať priamo v historických priestoroch. Hrad tak spája pôsobivú atmosféru minulosti s moderným využitím a patrí medzi najmalebnejšie pamiatky regiónu.

Vodný hrad Hronsek je ľahko dostupný z Banskej Bystrice a Zvolena. Ak cestujete autom, najjednoduchší prístup je po ceste č. 69. Z tejto cesty je odbočka do obce Hronsek. Pre tých, ktorí preferujú verejnú dopravu, je možné využiť vlakové spojenie. Vlaková stanica je vzdialená len niekoľko minút chôdze od hradu. Taktiež je k dispozícii pravidelná autobusová linka. Milovníci pešej turistiky a cyklistiky môžu využiť značené turistické a cyklistické trasy vedúce z Banskej Bystrice a Zvolena do Hronseku. Cesta je nenáročná a ponúka krásne výhľady na okolitú krajinu.
