Die Burg aus dem 13. Jahrhundert steht in beherrschender Lage auf einem mehr als 200 Meter steil zum Donautal abbrechenden Felsen und gehört Dank ihres einmaligen Erhaltunsgzustandes zu den bekanntesten Burgen des Landes. Wildenstein wurde als Nachfolgeburg von vier weitaus älteren Felsburgen erbaut, deren Reste noch heute in spektakulären Lagen ausmachbar sind. In der Burg finden sich eine Gaststätte und eine Jugendherberge.
