Eine der größten touristischen Attraktionen der Nordslowakei ist die Burg Orava, errichtet wie ein „Adlerhorst“ auf einem Felsen über dem Fluss Orava in Oravský Podzámok.
Sie war Komitatsburg und Sitz des Herrschaftsguts Orava, zu dem fast die gesamte Region Orava gehörte. Im Jahr 1556 kam die Burg in die Hände der Thurzos, die den umfangreichsten Umbau in Auftrag gaben. Im Jahr 1611 erhielt die Burg Orava ihre heutige Form. Heute besteht das Burgareal aus dem Komplex der unteren, mittleren und oberen Burg mit Palästen, Fortifikationen und Türmen. Auf der Burg ist der Sitz des Museums Orava mit mehreren Ausstellungen.
