Fleckenstein Castle near Lembach/France.
The Fleckenstein Castle is located right near the German border to Alsace. It belongs to the group of typical rock castles of the Wasgau. The castle was probably built in the early 12th century on a 30-meter high and about eight meter wide sandstone rock, which is part of the castle complex. It was the ancestral seat of the Fleckenstein family from 1129 to 1720. In 1680, French troops blew up the fortress, which was not rebuilt. Discoverable features: many interesting tunnels and chambers carved into the rock, drawings that connect the present with the past, an ancestral gallery, and a breathtaking view over the Northern Vosges and Palatinate Forest.
With the three-hour adventure course "Rätselburg," families embark on an original and entertaining journey into the Middle Ages.
