Ob oglarski koči še sedaj vsako leto v juliju sestavijo oglarsko kopo. Oglar skoraj ves teden bdi ob tleči kopi, da skuha oglje. Pri tem mu lahko delate družbo tudi obiskovalci Logarske doline.
Ali veste, kako so kuhali oglje?
Polena so tesno zložili v kopo okrog stržena. Kopo so pokrili s smrekovimi vejami ali travo in steptano zemljo. Oglar je zažgal netivo v strženu in reguliral dovod zraka z vrtanjem odprtin - zračnic v plast prsti. Po barvi dima je oglar vedel, kdaj je oglje kuhano. Ko se je kopa ohladila, so jo razdrli in pobrali oglje.
Tako obsežno oglarjenje je močno spremenilo gozdove Logarske doline. Posekana bukova drevesa so gozdarji postopoma nadomestili s smreko zaradi višje cene lesa. Smreka pa ni primerna za takšna rastišča. Zato so posledice v gozdovih vidne še danes, saj jih neurja in podlubniki prizadenejo veliko bolj, kot naravne gozdove. Počasi se bukev spet vrača v logarske gozdove na naravna bukova rastišča.
