A fás legelőből kialakult erdők szokásos képe jellemzi a területet: kevéssé záródott erdők nagyon összetett korosztályszerkezettel, fejlett cserjeszinttel és a matuzsálemekkel, amelyek egy része még jó karban van, mások már a holtfakészletet gyarapítják. A mélyebben bevágódott völgyekben idős bükkök dacolnak a száraz tájon eltöltött évtizedekkel.
Márkus a világhálón fellelhető elbeszélés szerint Mátyás király udvari bolondja volt, aki egy alkalommal az általa ellopott serleget az általa „szekrénynek” nevezett sziklaüregbe rejtette – valahol itt. Innen kapta a nevét a közeli csúcs és árok is.

- A Tés, autóbusz-váróteremtől a P◼ jelzésen nyugat felé indulunk, majd a településről déli irányba kivezető P jelzésen érhető el az öreg erdő (6,1 km, 66 m szintemelkedés).
Parking
- Várpalota nyugati szélén, a Mátyás király utca végében, a régi zsidótemetőnél tehetjük le az autót az úti célhoz legközelebb.
- Tésen a temetőnél tudunk leparkolni.
