Gozd niso samo drevesa. Tudi druge rastline in živali sestavljajo gozdni ekosistem.
V Logarski dolini so naravno prevladovali bukovi gozdovi. Na strmih pobočjih s suhimi tlemi se pojavljajo borovja, na hudourniških nanosih pa tu in tam tudi naravna smrekovja. Ljudje so v preteklosti sadili smreko tudi na bukova rastišča, sedaj pa se bukev spet vrača v logarske gozdove. Macesen, kot ena najbolj trdoživih drevesnih vrst, raste visoko v gorah, na zgornji gozdni in drevesni meji.
Med velikimi divjimi živalmi lahko v dolini pogosto opazimo srnjad in jelenjad, tudi lisico ali zajca. Visoko v gorah so najpogostejši gamsi, v stenah Planjave in Brane pa žive tudi kozorogi.
Občasno so v teh gozdovih prisotne tudi velike zveri: medved, volk in ris. Tu so našle svoje zavetje ptice pevke, sove in številne ujede, med njimi tudi planinski orel in sokol selec.
Pot po Logarski dolini na vsakem koraku ponuja vpogled v zanimivosti gozdov.
