A Mecsektől északra, a Baranyai-hegyhát egyik völgyében fekszik a meleg vizes gyógyszállójáról ismert Sikonda, a ma Komlóhoz tartozó üdülőtelep. Határában, a 345 m magas Cserma-hegy meredek lejtőjén rejtőzik egy „parkerdő” – ahol az egész Dél-Dunántúl legidősebb fáival találkozhatunk.

Több más dunántúli idős erdőfolthoz hasonlóan ez is fás legelő volt a múltban – a szomszédos Mánfa településhez tartozott. Idős, 210 évesnél korosabb bükkök, kocsánytalan és csertölgyek, gyertyánok, vadkörték példányai állnak a valamivel több mint tízhektáros területen. Csermaaljai-erdőrészlet Természetvédelmi Terület néven Komló város helyi jelentőségű természetvédelmi területe 1985 óta. Az erdő védelmi, illetve parkerdő rendeltetést is kapott. A két erdőrészlet közül az egyik magántulajdonban van; mindkettőt vágásos üzemmódban kezelik.

A tölgy- és gyertyánóriásokat fiatal erdő zárja körbe, beindítva azok alsó gallyainak lehullását, így holt faanyag bőven fedi a talajt. A folyamat idővel az idős fák pusztulásához vezet. Állítólag egyes példányok kora a 300 évet is meghaladja, és itt (szokatlanul alacsony tengerszint feletti magasságon) találhatók a Mecsek legidősebb bükkfái.

Directions

A Komló (Sikonda), Fürdő buszmegállótól a Fürdő utcán déli irányba kell elindulni, majd a Sikondai úton folytatjuk a gyaloglást. A Pacsirta közön jobbra fordulunk, és néhány lépést követően elérjük a Cserma-alja parkerdő szélét (0,5 km, 9 m szintemelkedés).
