Arblatsch leitet sich ab vom lateinischen "albulaceus" resp. von "albus"- weiss und "albulus"-weisslich. Gemeint ist wohl das gelblich-weisse Dolomitgestein mit Rauhwacke.
Der geologische Untergrund besteht aus Kalk, Dolomit und Rauhwacke (unte-re Trias). Das Wasser ist stark karbonathaltig und basenreich. Dies sind ideale Voraussetzungen für die Entstehung von Quellfluren und des Schachtelhalm-Tannen-Fichtenwaldes mit Rostsegge.
Der Fichtenwald wirkt stark aufgelöst, da und dort sind einzelne Tannen und vor allem Alpenerlen und Vogelbeeren beigemischt. Die Nadelbäume stehen in der Regel auf erhöhten Kleinstandorten. Die vernässten Mulden sind baum-feindlich und zeigen eine hochstaudenartige Vegetation, die sehr artenreich ist und mehrere Sumpfpflanzen beherbergt (Rostsegge, Sumpfpippau, Wald-schachtelhalm, Sumpfdotterblume, Weisse Pestwurz, Rasenschmiele, Rund-blättriger Steinbrech u.a.).
