On 8 November 1805, during the First Serbian Uprising, the Ottoman city commander Dizdar Muharem Guša formally handed over the keys of Smederevo to Karađorđe Petrović beneath this very tree. This symbolic act marked the освобождение of the city and its re-establishment as a Serbian political centre for the second time in its history. Over time, the tree became a living witness to this მნიშვნელოვანი moment and a place of remembrance.
Today, although still standing, the mulberry tree is in a poor state of preservation due to its বয়স and environmental factors. Efforts to protect and conserve it have been undertaken, but its condition remains delicate. Nevertheless, it continues to attract visitors as a unique intersection of natural heritage and national history.
