Der Maler, Expressionist und Mitbegründer der Künstlervereinigung "Brücke", Erich Heckel, wurde am 31. Juli 1883 in dem Haus Niedermarkt 15 geboren.
Die Kreissparkasse Döbeln fühlt sich diesem wertvollen Erbe als Hauseigentümer in besonderer Weise verpflichtet. Im Heckel-Haus werden in architektonisch anregendem Rahmen einige der herausragenden Werke Heckels präsentiert. Auch die Stadt Döbeln mit der Kleinen Galerie und der Heckel-Freundeskreis engagieren sich stark für dieses kulturelle Erbe.
