The building complex
The large, stepped building complex, which stands out from the overall appearance of the village thanks to its brickwork, is of above-average value. According to art historian Walter Ruppen, the stone foundation on which the wooden building, erected in 1852, stands dates back to the second half of the 17th century. The cellar walls with their arches point to this period.
The eastern part of the wall, the actual tower, was built much earlier. Historically, it probably has a connection with the stone granary from 1395 located slightly to the south, a date revealed by the dendrochronological examination carried out by the Office of Archaeology of the City of Zurich. The tower-like building to the east of the wooden part could probably date back to the time when noble families ruled over Mund (13th-14th century). It is well known that these ruling dynasties lived in tower or castle-like buildings to demonstrate their power.
