The Parish Church of St. Remigius, built in the neo-Romanesque style in 1903-1904, is also known as the "Bliestal valley cathedral" because of its exposed location in the upper Bliestal valley, its size and visual dominance over the village.
It stands in the middle of the old town centre of the core settlement of Bliesen and is the village landmark. The church was built by the then dean Jakob Backes (1897-1929) according to plans by the Düsseldorf architect Josef Kleesattel. A fortified church and a Roman signal tower are said to have stood on Mount Kirchberg in the past. Apparently, the foundation walls of today's church tower are built on those of the former signal tower.
