The "Marina" of Riva del Garda
Porto San Nicolò is the marina of Riva del Garda. With its 150 moorings, it is the "home" of many boats that become a colourful backdrop for a pleasant walk along the lake.
The port is guarded by the massive Fort San Nicolò, built between 1860 and 1861 by the Austro-Hungarian Empire to guard the lake and block any Italian landings. The fortification was part of the powerful defensive system that affected all of Mount Brione and the coastline of Garda Trentino.
Today Forte San Nicolò is home to several associations linked to outdoor activities on Lake Garda.
