Wallfahrtskirche Grongörgen

The valuable original Gothic stained glass windows, especially, give an impression of the original atmosphere of the church.
The rich figuration of the late-Gothic ribbed netting has been preserved in its original form and colour both in the choir and in the nave. Remarkable frescoes inside the church are also preserved: in the vertex of the choir arch there is the death of Christ the Redeemer with Mary and the favourite disciple John under the cross. Above the entrance to the sacristy we find the church patron Pope Gregory the Great with the tiara on his head and the cross-staff in his right hand.
On the wall above the north portal there is a baroque crucifixion group (formerly in the tower chapel of the tower), a representation which is not usual in this area. The historical small organ with a rare type of pipe is a wonderful work, which is admired by connoisseurs.
Tip: Every last Sunday in October the "Leonhardiritt", a magnificent horse parade, takes place.
