St. Ludwig Kirche in Bad Dürkheim

It is the late home of the Dürkheim Catholics and offers a special rarity.

Catholics had to ‘stay outside’ in Lutheran Dürkheim for a long time: Their church was located in Pfeffingen. It was only when St Ludwig's was completed in 1829 in the classicist Weinbrenner style that there was a Catholic church in the town. The altarpiece by Hitler opponent Paul Thalheimer harbours a secret. Anyone who looks at it or takes a guided tour of the town will understand why it is a miracle that the painting survived the Nazi era.
