Die Doppelturmanlage im Westen stammt aus dem 12.Jahrhundert und die anschließende dreischiffige spätgotische Hallenkirche entstand um 1500. Die hölzerne Flachdecke wurde 1896 eingebaut. Ein frühbarocker Altar, die Kanzel um 1600 und ein achteckiger Taufstein aus Porphyr, Ende 15.Jahrhundert, bestimmen die Ausstattung des Chorraums. Auf der Westempore befindet sich die bekannte Gottfried Silbermann-Orgel von 1721.
Gottfried Silbermann (1683 - 1753) erlernte den Orgelbau bei seinem Bruder Andreas (1678 - 1734) in Straßburg, bevor er ab 1711 seine eigene Firma in Freiberg führte. Im Dezember 1718 schloß der Kirchenpatron Freiherr von Friesen mit Gottfried Silbermann und Zacharias Hildebrandt einen Kontrakt zum Bau einer neuen Orgel. II/23. Am 8. November 1721 erfolgte die Prüfung durch Thomaskantor Johann Kuhnau aus Leipzig und Hoforganist Gottfried Ernst Bestel aus Altenburg. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy lobte nach seinem Besuch 1840 in Rötha die beiden Silbermann-Orgeln. 1796 baute der Universitäts-Orgelbauer Stephani eine schaltbare Pedalkoppel ein. Die letzte größere Restaurierung erfolgte 1979 - 80 durch die Firma Eule.
